The 2022-2023 national pomegranate campaign has been a historic one for us. And we tell you why.

It was customary to arrive with proximity grenade until the end of December. However, this year, we have had this product available until the end of February – two more months! This has allowed us to cover a six-month cycle with pomegranate grown in Spain, specifically in the Valencian Community.

The rest of the year we also have imported pomegranate. For us it has been a milestone to be able to offer the ‘made in Spain’ pomegranate market in greater volume, 190% more than in the previous season, and for a longer period.

And how did we achieve this? What has changed so that we have made this leap?

This has been due to two main factors. On the one hand, varietal selection and, on the other hand, the improvements introduced in the process of preserving the fruit once it has been harvested. All this, in a natural way and keeping intact the organoleptic properties of the pomegranate, i.e. its aroma, appearance, flavor, texture

Shelled pomegranate, the queen of the fresh-cut range

Vicente Peris: clean room for pomegranate processing

At Peris we only work with pomegranate for our fresh-cut division, that is, we serve it shelled and ready for consumption.

The work process is very careful and the basis is that we always adapt to the ripening point of the fruit. The pomegranates are selected at their best moment, they are shelled and their grains, whose name is aril, are packed in sustainable jars.

This format of pomegranate prepared for consumption is very popular and it is becoming more and more popular because, let’s not fool ourselves, pomegranate is not one of the fruits that is more comfortable to peel. You have to know how to do it and have the time to do it. If you prefer this way of consumption, don’t miss this video on how to easily peel a pomegranate.

If you prefer to skip this step and enjoy the pomegranate without wasting a second, the fresh-cut format is perfect. Our tubs, with the brands Peris and Frutifresh, can be found in Consum, El Corte Inglés supermarkets, Alcampo and Mi Alcampo, among others.
