When we say that at Peris we pamper our crops to the maximum, we do not say it because it is a nice phrase to incorporate into our speech, we say it because it is our day-to-day reality.
For us, pampering means respect. We do this by taking care of the soils so that they are healthy, reducing the application of synthetic products to the maximum and betting on a sustainable agriculture that offers healthy fruits within the reach of all consumers. Because health should not be at odds with the economy of any family or person.
And in this line of work we have obtained toad skin melons with total absence of chemical residues, our PERIS NATURE Zero Residues melons, which are now available on the market. Soon we will be able to include in the PERIS NATURE range two more of our star products: watermelon and pumpkin.
But let’s go into detail… What are zero waste foods?
Zero residue food production is the set of techniques, protocols and inputs that we apply with the objective of obtaining residue levels below the limit of determination of active ingredients, below 0.01 ppm (parts per million) or 0.01 mg/kg.
Thanks to the application of these techniques, and after a rigorous analysis carried out by external laboratories, we have certified the absence in PERIS NATURE melons of about 717 residues, which are usually present in non-organic products. These residues are not harmful to health in the volume found in fruits and vegetables, but their absence is always desirable.
Reaching this point has been the result of continuous work, motivated by our own concerns as a company, and also by the consumers, to whom we listen with great attention.
For some years now, there has been a growing trend in the market that chooses/demands organic or residue-free foods to promote healthy eating. In addition, the increase in environmental awareness and agricultural policy emanating from Europe, also have an impact on extending these farming practices that result in residue-free food and obtained in an environmentally sustainable way.
Integrated production cultivation practices
PERIS NATURE Zero Residues toad skin melons have been cultivated with integrated production techniques, advocating the utmost respect for the land, the product and the environment.
This type of crop requires a holistic view of the crop and action on various factors:
– Soil: soil preparation and tillage: this helps us to improve its condition and obtain active soils with good biological conditions.
– Fertilization: through specific programs and taking into account the real needs of the soil.
– Irrigation: water should undergo chemical and bacteriological analysis and irrigate only according to the needs of the crop.
– Integrated pest and disease control: we use cultural, biological, biotechnological and physical methods.
– Pruning: allowing light penetration and aeration and carried out with disinfected tools. The use of plant remains, once shredded, will be incorporated into the soil as mulch.
In addition, we are certified operators for organic products.
In addition to the sustainable practices in the fields that have allowed us to achieve zero waste in several areas, in Peris we also have the operators certificate for organic products. This means that we can buy and sell organic agricultural products, handle them, transform them, chop them… A series of attributes to give the best service to our customers and in line with the global vision of sustainability that we carry out in Vicente Peris.
